About Brighton Shiatsu Practice

Brighton Shiatsu Practice was established in 2002 by Maria Thiam MRSS.

Maria originally tried Shiatsu when searching for alternative ways of coping with a back problem. She found Shiatsu and the Chinese medicine viewpoint on health fascinating yet grounded in common sense. She became a student of Tai Chi and later qualified as a Shiatsu practitioner herself in 1999, enjoying these forms of body work to maintain her own health.

Not long after this Maria took a break from practicing to have two children. During the birth of the second child, the acupressure points allowed a very 'easy' totally natural home birth, managing the pain to a deep level of relaxation. She found Tai Chi really helped her body and health recover from child birth and all these experiences have enriched and deepened her understanding and appreciation of Shiatsu.

Maria returned to Shiatsu and completed a Post-Graduate year to attain her MRSS qualification. She now assists at the Shiatsu College in Brighton, practises at Stone Street as well as home visits and still practises Tai Chi and Chi Gung. She loves the capacity body work has to enhance our lives and enjoys approaching health through body work.
